Terms, Initializations and Acronyms

Bug Out - to leave an unsafe area for a safer area. Military use may be to deploy quickly.
BOB - Bug Out Bag - a backpack or any other bag used to put temporary supplies into. May be used in a bug out situation or just kept around for little emergencies. Typically prepped to provide for a 72 hour period.
BOL - Bug Out Location -  A predetermined place to go if you need to bug out. Could be land you own, an agreement with a friend or relative, or even a hotel out of town.
BOV - Bug Out Vehicle - any vehicle that you may use to bug out. Could be a truck, car, motorcyle, bicycle, horse and wagon...anything that you prepare to be ready for a bug out.
MRE's - Meals Ready To Eat - prepackaged meals that usually require little to no preparation. Decent for short-term situations, but not really a self-suffiency solution.
RAT PACKS - Rations package - See MRE.
C Rations - Canned Rations - MRE's in a can.
Gerry Can - Portable gas container. Real Gerry can's were made of metal. The term Gerry referred to the German's in WWII that popularized their use.
SHTF - Shit Hits The Fan - term used to talk about a real bad situation.
TEOTWAWKI - The End Of The World As We Know It - Used to talk about a time where there is social breakdown, nuclear holocaust or generally apocalyptic event.
Prepper - someone who prepares for life events, good or bad, in general.
Survivalist - Person who is prepared to go off the grid. Usually portrayed in the light of not being mentally stable and willing to live in an underground bunker for years. Not all survivalists are like this, however the term has been so abused that it now pretty much only refers to extremists or wilderness survival experts.
Modern Survivalist - Coined by Jack Spirko of TheSurvivalPodcast.com. It's about, "living the life you want, if times get tough, or even if they don't."
PM's - Precious Metals. Usually refers to gold and silver, but can include platinum and palladium. Gold and silver are typically seen as an emergency currency and a physical store of wealth.
